Keeping our
Waterways Alive
IWA - Our vision is to ensure the inland waterways of England and Wales are restored and maintained to the best possible standards and kept accessible for the benefit of all people.
We were formed in 1946 to fight for the canals to be saved and revitalised so that the canals mights be benefit future generations.
After many years of effort and relentless campaigning to change policies and attitudes, we have prevented many canals from being abandoned and forgotten.
We have information on all waterways, restoration, events, current campaigns, navigation details, guidance notes, boat safety plus advice if you are considering visiting the waterways or perhaps living afloat.
There are many ways that you can support the work of The Inland Waterways Association and in turn contribute to safeguarding Britain's inland waterways. IWA represents the views of all waterway users.
Today we have about 18,000 members whose interests include boating, towing path walking, industrial archaeology, nature conservation and many other activities.
